Russian envoy says PHL able, deserves to receive more Russian tourists
The Russian ambassador has urged the Philippines to be more aggressive in enticing tourists from his country.
Russian Ambassador Igor Anatolyvich Khovaev noted that tourism was another area for cooperation between Manila and Moscow that would be discussed during Duterte’s visit to Russia some time in May.
He noted that he was very keen on supporting the Philippines’ efforts to attract more Russian tourists.
“The Philippines should advertise your tourism potential in a more active, in more aggressive way in
Russia because may Russians don’t know anything about the Philippines, it’s strategic,” Khovaev told reporters on the sidelines of the Philippine-Russian Business Assembly Inc. induction of new
members in Makati City.
The Russian envoy said that the country could take advantage of the low-level Russian awareness of the Philippines, as the country could pitch more potential tourist attractions.
“You have more potential to attract more Russian tourists, unfortunately last year only 28,000 Russian tourists came to the Philippines… It’s not enough,” Khovaev said.
“
Look at neighboring Thailand, it receives one million Russian tourists every year but your country… You are able and deserve to receive much more Russian tourists,” he added. —NB, GMA News
