Jason Ivler found guilty of murder, sentenced to spend at least 30 years in jail
Jason Ivler was found guilty of the murder of Renato Victor Ebarle Jr. on Tuesday (November 24) — six years after the crime was committed.
Judge Luisito Cortez of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 84 sentenced Ivler of reclusion perpetua or at least 30 years in prison for the shooting and killing of Renato Ebarle Jr. in a shooting incident in Santolan Road on November 19, 2009.
Ebarle was the son of former Presidential Chief of Staff Undersecretary Renato Ebarle Sr. Ivler was arrested for the crime in 2010.
Aside from facing reclusion perpetua, Ivler was also ordered to pay Ebarle's family at least P9 million for the victim's loss of earning.
Ivler's uncle, folk singer Freddie Aguilar, was also present during the promulgation. The singer said he is upset with the decision because he believed Ivler when he said that he is innocent of the crime. Aguilar still hopes that things will turn out better for his nephew after this decision.
Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) Spokesperson Boy Evangelista said they are very happy with the judge's decision and feels fulfilled as justice is now served
